Mental Health Awareness Week

For the third year in a row, students in CoCom (the student-led coordinating committee) organized activities for Mental Health Week to help their classmates decompress before finals and help bring awareness to mental health issues and resources. Activities this year included tai chi, yoga, a picnic at Tongva Park, craft activities, chair massages, a therapy dog visit, and music therapy.
Professor Nicole Eberhart also hosted a lunch discussion on Monday, on the topic of mental health awareness. Student and certified yoga instructor Allie Huttinger (cohort '17) led students in two sessions of yoga and mindfulness meditation, on Wednesday and Thursday. For the craft activity, Sangita Baxi ('17) led students in creating miniature hanging terrarium bulbs with succulent plants. And, as with last year, dogs visiting from the Alliance for Therapy Dogs were a big hit among students and staff alike.
To close out the week, Etienne Rosas ('14) organized a music therapy jam session Friday afternoon.
Hilary Smith ('16) said of the week, "It was really relaxing to have these activities available throughout the week. Susan, the masseuse, is my favorite, but it’s also great to just sit back and chat with friends during the other activities.”
