Fall 2016

Message from the Dean

Susan Marquis

Wow, what a year we've had! 2016 has sometimes felt like riding in the front car of a roller coaster—and I don’t mean the tame one on the Santa Monica pier. The presidential election results clearly surprised many on both sides of the aisle. We’d be remiss if we didn’t think through the messages of the campaign and try to understand their underlying causes. At the same time, the School and RAND recognize the need to look ahead. We remain committed to providing the highest quality research and analysis on the policy problems the new administration expects to tackle, while anticipating those not yet on the horizon.

Closer to home, we appreciate the remarkable life and contributions of founding dean Charles Wolf. His passing in October was a profound loss for all of us. This issue of Findings includes reflections on Charles and his intellectual and professional leadership. We do miss him dearly.

This is also the debut of our new format for Findings. It’s more mobile friendly and easier to scroll through on your computer. Let us know what you think about the new look.

Finally, all of us at Pardee RAND wish you all warmest wishes for the holidays and the new year. I hope you will take time to appreciate and enjoy your families, friends, and colleagues.

Happy New Year!
