The Volcker Initiative Bears Fruit
January 11, 2005 -- A new book applies RAND-like analysis to chronic problems of the U.S. government: structures that don’t match missions, broken systems for finding and grooming leaders, and incentives that aren’t driven by performance.
Backed by support from former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul A. Volcker, the Pardee RAND Graduate School has launched an innovative effort to address urgent problems in the U.S. government.
The Volcker Initiative includes research, teaching, and outreach activities involving government, business, and civil society. The new book, High-Performance Government: Structures, Leadership, Incentives, is edited by PRGS Dean Robert Klitgaard and PRGS Visiting Professor Paul C. Light, who is based at NYU and Brookings.
The book was written to help the new administration focus on deep issues of public management.
