Dr. Argüden receives Distinguished Citizenship Award
Pardee RAND alum Dr. Yilmaz Argüden (cohort '80) and Chairman of ARGE Consulting and Rothschild-Turkey, received The Distinguished Citizenship Award from Gen. Brent Scowcroft, Chairman of ATC (American-Turkish Council) and Ferit Şahenk, Chairman of TAIK (Turkish-US Business Council) for his innovative leadership in promoting Turkey in North America.
Previous recepients of the Award include Richard B. Cheney, Alexander M. Haig, Dr. Zbigniew Brzeziskinky, Richard Holbrooke, as well as the Founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegün, Chairman of the leading Turkish conglomerate Mustafa V. Koc, Chairman of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Industry Rıfat Hisarcıklıoğlu, and NATO's Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Hikmet Çetin.
Dr. Argüden had assumed various leadership positions at the leading NGO promoting Turkish-American relations before assuming the Chairmanship of TAIK between 2005-6. This award recognized his tremendous volunteer efforts to promote Turkey over period of about two decades. The citation reads "In tribute to a successful career and extraordinary achievements, as public servant, entrepreneur and businessman, and for his innovative leadership of the Turkish-US Business Council, where he made his voice one of insight and reason and his promotion of Turkey throughout North America a model of outstanding leadership." and is signed by Brent Scowcroft, Ferit Şahenk, and Amb. James H. Holmes.
During the ceremony, Dr. Argüden said "It is an honor for me to have had the opportunity to contribute to the relations between two great countries that share the common values of democracy and freedoms in social, economic and political spheres. The strength of the relationship between Turkey and the USA is important not only for their own citizens, but also for a sustainable peace in the Middle East, for economic independence of Central Asian countires and for the economic dynamism of Europe."
Dr. Yılmaz Argüden is a leading strategist, advisor, and board member of major public and private institutions, and NGOs. He is the Chairman of ARGE Consulting, a leading management consulting firm in Turkey. ARGE has been recognized at the European Parliament as one of the best three companies "shaping the future" with its commitment to corporate social responsibility and is the first Turkish signatory of the Global Compact.
He is the Chairman of Rothschild investment bank in Turkey; an independent board member of numerous companies in Turkey, Canada, Netherlands and Russia, as well as many NGOs. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Business Strategy at the Bosphorus University and the MBA program of the Koç University; an author of numerous books and a columnist focusing on business and strategy issues. He was selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow, by the World Economic Forum for his commitment to improve the state of the world.
